Who are your workshops for?

Who are your workshops for?

Our workshops are for anybody who edits books for a general readership as part of their job. Our training is aimed at people who are new to editing. You might be an assistant editor or agent supporting your manager with editorial notes. Or you might be an editor or agent embarking on your first solo edits.

More experienced editors and agents looking to refresh or deepen their knowledge are also welcome to join us.

Our workshops were designed by editors with in-house experience acquiring, editing and publishing books at trade publishers – we don’t cover academic or educational books.

The focus of our workshops is on editing fiction and non-fiction for adults and young adults. We don’t have any children’s-specific training (yet), but children’s editors working on books for ages 6+ have found our training useful and relevant.

You can get us in to run a session just for you, or, if you have a smaller team, they can join one of our open workshops. We can also work with you to design tailored training around a particular question or need. For more information, get in touch using the contact form.

I work in editorial at a publishing house and would love to do your training. How can I take part in a workshop?

Your publishing house can either get us in to run an in-house session, or they can sign you up to one of our open workshops. Talk to your manager or HR and let them know you’re keen – they can get in touch with us via our contact page.

Of course. Agents do vital editorial work. Get in touch with us about running an in-house session for your agency, or joining one of our open workshops.

I work at an academic or educational publisher. Is your training right for me?

Our training was developed by trade book editors, with trade books in mind. While we suspect you’d enjoy the non-fiction workshop, the training isn’t tailored to academic or educational titles.

I'm a freelance editor interested in the editorial training workshops. Is there a way for me to come along to one?

Not at the moment, but we might offer this option in the future. If you’re interested, please send us a message using the contact form so that we can be in touch if that happens.

I work for a university that runs an MA in publishing and we'd be interested in running your training for our students. Is that an option?

It could well be! Get in touch to let us know more and we can keep talking.

I'm an author with a manuscript in progress and would love to work with an editor to help me get it into shape. Can Unfolding Edits do that for me?

I'm an author with a manuscript in progress and would love to work with an editor to help me get it into shape. Can Unfolding Edits do that for me?

All of our editing work comes through literary agencies or publishers. This gives us the opportunity to train new agents and editors in the process.

If you’d like feedback on your manuscript but don’t yet have an agent or book deal, we recommend getting in touch with The Literary Consultancy, or seeking out a freelance editor through Reedsy.

Do you offer advice to aspiring authors looking to get published?

Do you offer advice to aspiring authors looking to get published?

We can’t offer one-to-one advice to aspiring authors, but there are lots of resources online you can check out. Penguin’s 'Getting Published’ pages and The Literary Consultancy's 'Resources for Writers' are two excellent starting points.
